Clinical Infectious Diseases (CID) publishes practice-changing original research, reviews, guidelines, and perspectives that clinicians can use when caring for patients. CID covers the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the full range of infectious diseases. The evaluation of current and novel treatments, microbiology, immunology, and policies as they relate to patient care are highly prioritized. CID also publishes numerous supplements devoted to single topics in the field. CID does not publish papers on basic mechanisms in microbiology, pathogenesis, or immunology; phase 1 clinical trials of very early-stage compounds; animal-based research not directly applicable to current clinical care; early in vitro data on treatments; or studies that focus on assays or measurements unlikely to be clinically relevant due to cost, technical challenges, or other barriers. Such studies may be a better fit for our sister journal, The Journal of Infectious Diseases.
