Scope
Cardiovascular Toxicology (CATO) is the only journal dedicated to publishing contemporary issues, timely reviews, and experimental and clinical data on the mechanisms of cardiovascular toxicity and its influence on cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. In short, CATO publishes papers that describe the effects and elucidate molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways of environmental toxins and clinically-relevant drugs on the cardiovascular system. Also covered are the detrimental effects of both established and emerging cardiovascular drugs including anti-cancer chemotherapy and gene therapy (e.g., clinical trials) as well as the side effects of non-cardiovascular targeted drugs and drugs of abuse. In addition, human and animal studies that address the cardiovascular effects of exposure to environmental toxicants (e.g., air pollution, wildfire smoke) and changing environmental conditions (e.g., heat stress) are welcomed -- especially studies that also address susceptibility factors such as sex, diet, and metabolic states. Thus, CATO is a unique journal in which cardiovascular toxicological data across the hierarchical spectrum from in silico to clinical trials are appreciated. Studies of “Environmental Cardiology”; Reports of safety and toxicity of new cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular drugs including anticancer chemotherapy; Molecular pathways of environmental toxins and drugs; Covers cardiovascular toxicity of drugs of abuse; Cardiovascular toxicity due to interactions between toxins and susceptibility states (e.g., sex, obesity, diabetes).
