Scope

Molecular Therapy Advances is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal publishing transformative research across the full spectrum of gene and cell therapy. Formerly published as Molecular Therapy Methods & Clinical Development, the journal has evolved to reflect its expanded scope and renewed focus on field-defining science, from foundational discoveries to translational breakthroughs and early clinical advances. As an official journal of the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT), it serves as a trusted platform for both ASGCT members and the broader scientific community. The journal reflects the accelerating pace of molecular medicine, where emerging technologies and cross-disciplinary approaches are reshaping the therapeutic landscape. We publish research that drives this momentum, emphasizing advances in gene delivery, genome and epigenome editing, engineered immune and stem cells, biomanufacturing, and both viral and non-viral vector platforms, alongside preclinical and clinical studies that move these innovations closer to patients. We also recognize the growing influence of computational science and artificial intelligence, which are redefining how therapies are designed, optimized and brought into clinical practice. We welcome studies across a broad range of diseases, from rare acquired and inherited disorders to more common conditions, when they offer meaningful mechanistic insight or therapeutic innovation. Submissions should demonstrate advancement in biological understanding, therapeutic potential, or translational impact. We particularly encourage work that challenges assumptions, reveals unexpected biology, or addresses persistent barriers in therapy development. High-quality negative results, replication studies, and methodological innovations are also valued when they strengthen rigor and reproducibility. Our mission is to elevate impactful science and provide a home for both established leaders and emerging voices shaping the future of gene and cell therapy.
