Scope
JCSM Clinical Reports welcomes research articles, reviews and short reports with a clinical focus on cachexia and sarcopenia, and on body composition and its physiological and pathophysiological changes during the lifespan, and in response to different illnesses. We welcome submissions from clinicians, researchers, policy makers and those working in industry. The term cachexia describes involuntary weight loss that is observed in the course of many chronic diseases, and is one of the most debilitating and life-threatening aspects of various illnesses at advanced stages. Cachexia, wasting syndromes and sarcopenia are becoming a concerning challenge for an increasing number of patients, their relatives and the medical teams caring for them. JCSM Clinical Reports is of interest to all those dealing with the clinical aspects of cachexia, wasting and sarcopenia in various diseases (including, but not limited to, physicians, dieticians, pharmacologists and students). The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, clinical aspects of the following topics: Alterations in body composition, particularly those affecting skeletal muscle (key elements in the ageing process and in the pathophysiology of several chronic illnesses); Sarcopenia, i.e. loss of functional muscle mass without weight loss, as related to the ageing process, reduced physical performance, falls, and disability; Clinical care of affected patients, such as those suffering from AIDS, cancer, chronic heart failure, chronic lung disease, liver cirrhosis, chronic kidney failure, rheumatoid arthritis, or sepsis; Methods of assessing body composition, Functional capacity, muscle strength and organ size Cachexia complicating chronic disorders; Epidemiology of body weight control; Exercise rehabilitation in the elderly, in cancer, in CHF, in CKD, in COPD, in Chronic liver disease; Potential therapeutic approaches.
