Scope
In December 2013, the publisher of The American Journal of Managed Care® introduced a new publication devoted to covering the nation’s transition from a fee-for-service payment delivery model to a model that pays for quality: The American Journal of Accountable Care® (AJAC). The Journal is keenly focused on health care reform, and, in turn, new practices required by the transition to new payment models tied to measures of health care quality, efficiency, and value. AJAC fills a void in the current publication landscape by encouraging the formal sharing of information about real-world interventions designed to improve population health, value for dollars spent on health care, and potentially innovative policy, payment, and organizational practice changes with the potential to benefit patients, providers, populations, and society. By publishing trends from the field articles and case descriptions in addition to original research, AJAC represents a venue for stakeholders who have important insights to offer but may feel shut out of the traditional academic publishing space. This allows for a more real-time understanding of the constantly evolving health care landscape and the sharing of information across stakeholders who often keep information within the walls of their organizations. AJAC’s peer review and editorial process maintains professional standards for evaluation of study impact and results, while being flexible to accommodate the many different forms of article contributions and different stages of work being reported on.
