Scope
Since its inception in 1981, Activities, Adaptation & Aging (AAA) has established itself as one of the leading and oldest double anonymized peer-reviewed international journals within the field of gerontology. AAA strives to be a premier journal in which to both publish and discover innovative, provocative, and rigorous research regarding the implications of various activities on older adults’ quality of life. AAA seeks to lead with a collection of insightful research and thought leadership to promote culture change/transformation and pragmatic innovations for healthy aging. Transforming institutional culture is needed in all settings where older adults reside. Both the field of gerontology and the places where people work, but more importantly where older adults also live, need a strong push toward normalcy. This journal stands for a new concept that each older adult ages in a place of choice and thus strives to highlight pragmatic solutions developed to enable older adults to live with purpose and dignity, resonating with the needs and preferences, voices, and choices of older adults. As a result of this new focus, the new secondary title of AAA is Purposeful and Dignified Living for Older Adults. Topics: A focus on life and living more than care; Active aging / healthy aging / seamless aging / successful aging; Aging in place / aging in a place of choice; Assisted and independent living; Community-dwelling older adults; Culture change and transformation; Impact of particular activities (e.g., art, educational class, charity, dance, exercise, music, etc. + “how to” guide); Life satisfaction and quality of life; Long-term care / nursing home; Meaning and purpose; Memory care / serving people with dementia; Mobility / movement and solutions; Socialization and social influence and contributing to one’s community; Technology-mediated activities and solutions; Wellbeing; New theories, frameworks, and models relevant for older adults; Recent trends in aging (by invitation only – contact Editor before developing/submitting).
